Deer Valley Grows to 4,500 Acres and Opens December 5

Deer Valley is the biggest change on the American map this season. The resort’s expansion site puts the 2026/27 mountain at 4,500 acres and 209 runs, and its media room has now put a date on the season: December 5, 2026, conditions permitting.

What the resort actually says

Deer Valley's expansion site, Expanded Excellence, gives these figures for the 2026/27 mountain:

• 4,500 acres of skiable terrain
• 209 ski runs — the page itself warns that "as construction advances, the total number of ski runs may be updated"
• 32 aerial lifts: 2 gondolas, 23 detachable chairlifts and 7 fixed-grip chairlifts, with 8 conveyor and surface lifts counted separately
• 6,450 ft base, 9,570 ft summit and 3,120 vertical feet from the highest point

Why our resort page still says 4,300

Because Deer Valley's own main stats page still does. deervalley.com/explore-the-mountain lists 4,300 acres, 202 runs and 31 lifts — the mountain as it stands — while the expansion site describes the mountain as it will be. Both are the resort's own numbers, published on the same domain, and they disagree by 200 acres and 7 runs. We print both rather than pick the bigger one.

That gap is, in effect, the size of the news: the expansion adds roughly 200 acres and 7 named runs to what the resort currently advertises, and takes the lift count from 31 to 32 aerial lifts.

Opening day

Deer Valley's media room states the resort "is slated to open to the public on December 5, 2026, conditions permitting". That makes it the latest of the 14 officially published US opening dates this season; Park City Mountain, the other resort in the same town, opens on November 20.

No closing date has been published for 2026/27.
