Where a group sleeps in Canillo

Canillo is a real village, not a resort development: three-star half-board hotels and apartments at lower prices than Soldeu, the gondola to El Forn right in the village and the Palau de Gel next door. For club or parents'-association groups with families it is the most practical base in Grandvalira.

How the group gets to Canillo

It is the first Grandvalira village you reach coming from Spain via Encamp: a little under three hours from Barcelona. The coach drops off by the gondola and there is coach parking.

Skiing Canillo as a group

The gondola goes up to El Forn, with a beginner area and blue runs to start on, and from there it links to El Tarter and Soldeu. A mixed group can leave beginners at El Forn and send the rest to tour the area with a lunchtime meeting point.

After skiing in Canillo

The Palau de Gel, with an ice rink and pool, is the group activity for the afternoon off the slopes; for dinner, the village restaurants. Soldeu is ten minutes away for those who want to go out.

We book them beginner equipment and a two-hour group lesson on the first morning in Canillo. On day two they ski a blue run with the others. Anyone who prefers not to ski gets the same hotel and coach without lift pass or equipment.

How far ahead should we book a group in Canillo?

For 20 or more people midweek, one or two months is usually enough. For a weekend between January and March, a bank holiday or more than 50 people, secure the accommodation in October or November: hotels with room for a large group in Canillo sell out before single rooms do.
